Duke Women's Soccer
Est. 1988
The Duke Women's Soccer team was established in 1988 by head coach Bill Hempen. Hempen previously coached with the men's program, but did not hesitate to begin a women's program when offered the position. Under Hempen was assistant coach, Scott Proeshold. When Proeshold retired, Carla Overbeck became full time assistant coach. Overbeck was captain of the 1999 USA women's World Cup championship team, and previously played at UNC Chapel Hill, where she won four national championships, and never lost a game. In 2001, Robbie Church took over the head coaching position at Duke and holds that position to this day. He is assisted by Carla Overbeck and Erwin van Bennekom.
